2007 Chardonnay - Edna Valley

NEW!

Chuck Ortman was one of the first California winemakers to explore the benefits of fermenting Chardonnay in French oak barrels, a classic Burgundian technique that helped earn Chuck the nickname "Mr. Chardonnay" in industry circles. Today, he and Winemaker Matt Ortman advance their family tradition by crafting barrel-fermented Chardonnay with a stylistic emphasis on balance, elegance and finesse.

2006 Pinot Noir - Fiddlestix Vineyard

Our 2006 Pinot Noir from Fiddlestix Vineyard represents a careful selection of barrels that showcase the distinctive quality and personality of this acclaimed site in Santa Barbara County's Santa Rita Hills. The barrels were chosen from a larger lot by Winemakers Chuck Ortman and Matt Ortman, who wanted to craft an expressive wine that vividly captured the vineyard's signature black fruit flavors and enticing earthy nuances. The remaining barrels were incorporated into our Santa Rita Hills bottling of Pinot Noir.

2006 Pinot Noir - Willamette Valley

Our passion for the Pinot Noir grape extends northward to Oregon's Willamette Valley, where we seek an inspiring contrast to our Pinot Noir bottlings from California's Santa Rita Hills. The 2006 vintage hails equally from Temperance Hill Vineyard in the Eola Hills and Parish Hill Vineyard in the Red Hills of Dundee. Both vineyards are progressively and exquisitely tended, resulting in fruit of the highest caliber for a pure expression of Oregon Pinot Noir.

3 Stars - Brilliant!
"Bright ruby red color. The nose is lovely and pleasing with scents of cranberry, cherry, dried herbs, and earth with a hint of pepper. The palate is dry and fresh with a healthy dose of acid and rustic earthiness. Well rounded and ready to please with soft, dusty tannins."

2007 Sangiovese - Paso Robles

NEW!

Winemaker Matt Ortman's travels once included an extended winemaking stint at Italy's famed Castello di Gabbiano winery, where he worked closely with the Sangiovese grape and developed a keen appreciation for the wines of Chianti Classico. He and Winemaster Chuck Ortman were subsequently inspired to pursue a Sangiovese of their own. After considerable searching for the ideal site, they chose Bob Goodwin's Algunas Dias Vineyard in the upper foothills of Paso Robles. Crowned with Tuscan olive trees at an altitude comparable to Chianti Classico, this vineyard is a perfect place to grow a taste of Italy.
