Overview
Cuvèe Eddy is a uniquely flavorful union of three standout vineyards in Paso Robles, resulting in a classic Rhône-style blend with a fresh California twist. The name Cuvèe Eddy echoes the swirls of water depicted on our label, which signify our family's multigenerational winemaking experience. Like the circular currents in a stream, we merge family winemaking traditions with a constant pursuit of fresh ideas, as evidenced in this distinctive blend.
Vineyards
The inaugural 2006 vintage of Cuvèe Eddy is a blend of Syrah (44%) from Brave Oak Vineyard; Grenache (30%) and Mourvedre (9%) from French Camp Vineyard; Petite Sirah (15%) from Bootjack Ranch Vineyard; and Viognier (2%). Brave Oak and Bootjack Ranch vineyards reside in the foothills just east of the city of Paso Robles, where the sloping terrain is composed of shallow clay loam mixed with limestone. French Camp Vineyard occupies the southeastern corner of the Paso Robles appellation, where cool nighttime temperatures coax excellent structure and color from Rhône varietals.
Winemaking
Each lot was cold soaked for four days prior to fermentation in small open-top fermenters. The cap was punched down twice daily. A full rack and return was employed both prior to and halfway through fermentation to ensure a full exchange between the juice and skins. The separate varietal lots were aged in French oak barrels for 10 months, then assembled into the final blend after extensive trials. The winemaking concept behind Cuvèe Eddy is to use proven varietal combinations while keeping an open mind and going with the flow when it comes to crafting the most delicious blend possible.
Tasting Notes
The 2006 Cuvèe Eddy begins with warm, jammy black fruit aromas with toasty nuances. Big, juicy flavors of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry unfold with accents of mocha and vanilla bean. The texture is round and supple yet firmly structured, finishing with hints of spice. The deliciously juicy flavors of our 2006 Cuvèe Eddy appeal to a wide variety of dishes. Recommended pairings include peppercorn steak, roast leg of lamb with herbs, and smoked turkey, as well as casual fare such as hamburgers and pizza.
